Germany Issued More Than 71,100 Spouse Reunification Visas Last Year

The German authorities have revealed that the visa offices of missions abroad issued one of the highest numbers of visas for spouse reunification last year.

According to the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, in 2022, the country granted a total of 71,129 visas for spouse reunification to foreigners, representing an increase compared to the previous year, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Data show that of all nationalities, Indians were granted the highest number of visas for spouse reunification in 2022. A total of 8,930 citizens of India were granted a spouse reunification visa by Germany last year, with the majority of these visas being granted by the German Consulate General in Bangalore.

Turkish nationals were granted the second-highest number of spouse reunification visas by Germany last year. In 2022, a total of 8,778 citizens of Türkiye were granted a spouse reunification visa. Most of these visas were granted by the German Embassy in Istanbul and the Consulate General in Ankara.

Moreover, a high number of spouse reunification visas were also issued to citizens of Lebanon. In 2022, Germany granted a total of 5,008 spouse reunification visas to citizens of Lebanon.

Apart from the above-mentioned nationalities, Germany granted a high number of spouse reunification visas to citizens of Russia, Kosovo, and Iran.

In 2022, Russians were granted a total of 4,981 spouse reunification visas, Kosovars were granted a total of 4,643 spouse reunification visas, and Iranians were granted a total of 4,161 spouse reunification visas.

Germany granted a large number of other types of visas in 2022, too. Last year, Germany processed 1,490,473 visa applications and issued a total of 393,083 national visas.

“In 2022, the number of national visas issued amounted to 393,083 (2021: 304,773). A total of 444,154 applications for national visas were processed. In 2022, the number of processed applications not only increased again by another 27 per cent compared to the previous year,” the statement of the German Federal Foreign Office reads.

The highest number of national visas were granted for work purposes. Last year, Germany granted a total of 152,336 work visas. The highest number of work visas was granted to Indians, Turks, Serbs, Bosnians, Bosnians, Kosovars, Russians, and Albanians.

Moreover, a high number of visas were issued for study purposes. Germany issued 71,018 national study visas in 2022, with students from India, Türkiye, and China being the main beneficiaries.
