The biggest donors to Afghanistan 2021
Afghanistan Crisis
Winter 2021
There is growing concern about the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, according to British aid agencies. Because eight million people are at risk of starvation this winter.
Many countries have suspended or significantly reduced their funding to Afghanistan since the Taliban took control in August.
But aid organizations have launched a public call for financial assistance to help alleviate the crisis.
Donations for Afghanistan
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), about $ 1.6 billion in aid has been provided to Afghanistan so far this year.
United States and European Union
The United States has consistently been the biggest donor, followed by the European Union. However, some EU countries, such as Germany, have provided additional financial assistance.
In October, the European Union pledged $ 1 billion in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
Several countries in the region, including Pakistan and India, have provided assistance through aid agencies, food and medicine.
The World Bank says international donors have also agreed to transfer $ 280 million from a frozen Afghan fund to food and health services.
But fundraising remains a challenge. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates that another $ 4.5 billion is needed next year.
United Nations (WFP) about Afghanistan Crisis
The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) says the situation in Afghanistan could become the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
About 23 million people, who are the majority of the country’s population, face severe food shortages in the winter months.
