Canva Can Now Generate Custom Templates, Thanks To AI
Canva announced its newest suite of AI-powered design tools, engineered to help users simplify content production at scale. These features will be available to all 125 million users worldwide, starting today.
The most significant AI-related development is the launch of Magic Design, which allows users to create custom templates using generative AI. Users can generate a variety of custom templates by uploading images and choosing a style.
Similarly, Magic Edit is an AI-powered feature that enables users to add or replace elements in an image with a text prompt. To do this, the user simply brushes over the element they want to replace and describes the element they are looking to use.
Canva also introduced Magic Eraser, an AI-powered tool that removes unwanted details from images with a few swipes of a cursor. This tool assists users in creating professional-looking photos without the need for advanced editing skills, allowing for clean and distraction-free graphics.
The company did not limit the announcements to image editing, also adding AI-powered capabilities to create presentations with ease. The AI-driven Magic Design generates slides with outlines and content, reducing the time spent on formatting and providing a more engaging final result.
Beyond that, Canva also introduced the Beat Sync feature, which automatically synchronizes video footage to a selected soundtrack. This eliminates the need for manual editing to achieve perfect harmony between visuals and music.
Recognizing the need for global communication, Canva’s Translate tool allows users to convert their text into over 100 different languages with just a click, broadening their audience reach.
Finally, Magic Write, Canva’s AI-powered copywriting assistant, is now expanding across all of Canva’s Visual Suite, meaning creatives will be able to use the tool in presentations, social media, whiteboards and more. It had previously been limited to Docs. Magic Write is also expanding accessibility to more than 18 different languages.
To date, Canva offers users the ability to generate text and images with AI. Canva’s Text to Image feature has already generated 60 million images over the past four months. The company said they’ve increased the resolution of images generated by Text to Image by 16x, while also reducing the speed of generation by 68%.
Major organizations such as FedEx, Starbucks, and Zoom have adopted Canva’s all-in-one design platform to enhance their visual communication needs at scale. Canva also announced new brand management tools targeted to this user base.
With over $1.4 billion in annualized revenue and 125 million monthly users, Canva’s impact within the design world can’t be denied. Since the launch of Canva’s Visual Worksuite in September 2022, the platform has gained more than 40 million users, contributing to a total of over fifteen billion designs created so far.
